WHOSE BEHIND BEAUTIFUL BEGINNINGS ANTENATAL?

I’m Bronwen a registered midwife, registered teacher, and mumma to Benny. I also created Beautiful Beginnings antenatal courses right here in Christchurch.

After working as an LMC and hospital based midwife I have an in-depth knowledge of the physiology of pregnancy, birth and a newborn baby. However, after being the ‘go to’ person for all things mentioned for family, friends, and colleagues, I realised that not everyone has the same understanding. Having this understanding is crucial as it means that when it comes to night two after your birth, you know and understand why your boobs have become larger than watermelons and your baby appears to have a ravenous appetite....all night. Instead of relying and thinking back through the pieces of advice you’ve been given such as that little chestnut Aunt Ethel shared ‘...that night two is rough, you think you’re tired now....’ which leaves you hanging and a tad nervous of what the ‘dreaded’ night two may be, you’ll head into night two knowing what to expect and know why, meaning less uncertainty and more time to fall in love with your baby.

I am so passionate about you knowing your options and ensuring that you take the lead in your care that I have created the course content to be relevant, based on best practice, and specific to our locality. There will be a few anecdotal moments based on recent real life experiences and plenty of moments for you to reflect on what you want for your pregnancy, birth, and fourth trimester. Enabling you to feel that on completion of the course you have the confidence to make the choices that best support you and your babe to have a positive experience from the beginning.
